Rev. Dr. Setri Nyomi, general secretary of the World Communion of Reformed Churches
(WCRC), extends heartfelt greetings of peace and solidarity to the Communion of Churches in
Indonesia (PGI) on the occasion of its 18th General Assembly, which began on November 8, 2024,
in Rantepao, Toraja, Indonesia. This significant assembly gathers delegates from PGI’s 97 member
churches and thousands of attendees, emphasizing the enduring spirit of ecumenical fellowship.
Reflecting on the Assembly’s theme, “Living as a Light Bearing Goodness, Justice, and Truth”
(Ephesians 5:8b-9) and sub-theme “Towards a Pancasilaic Plural Society and at Peace with All of
God’s Creation,” Nyomi lauds the Indonesian churches’ dedication to promoting justice,
harmony, and unity amidst the vibrant diversity of their society. These themes, rooted in scripture
and inspired by Indonesia’s Pancasila principles, illuminate a shared journey toward embodying
Christ’s transformative love and peace.

In his greeting, Nyomi emphasized the deep ecumenical bonds that gatherings like the 18th
General Assembly of PGI strengthen, highlighting the essential role they play in building
connections across diverse cultures and fostering mutual understanding. He stated, “The 18th
General Assembly of PGI shines as a beacon of hope, reminding us of the transformative power of
faith when rooted in unity and shared purpose. As part of the WCRC family, PGI is called to bear
the light of goodness, justice, and truth in a world in need of hope. This Assembly provides an
opportunity for Indonesian churches to reaffirm their shared mission of peace and compassion, led
by the principles of Pancasila and the Gospel.

The WCRC values PGI’s commitment to nurturing a peaceful, plural society and working in
solidarity to build a world that reflects the inclusive love and justice of God. “As members of the
global Reformed family, we stand alongside PGI and all our Indonesian brothers and sisters,
reaffirming our shared call to walk as children of light,
” stated Nyomi.

Preceding the Assembly, pre-meetings for youth and women from October 31 to November 3,
2024, provided a platform for young leaders and women in ministry to engage in dialogue,
reflecting WCRC’s and PGI’s shared commitment to inclusive leadership within the church. On
November 5, PGI leaders and partner institutions convened in a Round Table Meeting,
strengthening collaborative relationships that will continue to shape the ecumenical movement.
WCRC extends its gratitude to the Toraja Church for its gracious hosting, creating a space for such
a monumental assembly. The participation of over 12,000 Christians from Indonesia and beyond
exemplifies the unity, fellowship, and transformative potential inherent in our shared faith.
We invite all people of goodwill to join us in celebrating this Assembly and praying for PGI’s work
in the years to come. May this gathering inspire all attendees to carry the light of goodness, justice,
and truth in every corner of their communities and beyond.
