Ecumenical Partners

The WCRC is committed to working with all the partners God provides, with a particular focus on participating with and contributing toward the work of:

ACT Alliance
ACT Alliance is a global faith-based coalition organized in national and regional forums operating in more than 120 countries. Through its more than 140 members, the Alliance works on humanitarian aid, gender and climate justice, migration and displacement, and peace and security to support local communities. Its goal is to promote a locally-led and coordinated approach to advocacy, humanitarian and developmental issues.

The WCRC is a member of the ACT Global Forum while dozens of WCRC member churches are active in the Alliance’s work.

Council for World Mission
The Council for World Mission is a worldwide partnership of Christian churches. The 32 members are committed to sharing their resources of money, people, skills and insights globally to carry out God’s mission locally.

The WCRC and CWM partner in programmatic work, especially that which is justice-focused. Both are active members of the NIFEA program [link to economic justice], which includes the ZacTax Campaign [link to ZacTax page]. The two organizations are also working closely together to promote the equality of men and women in church leadership.

Evangelische Mission Weltweit
The Evangelische Mission Weltweit (EMW) is an organization of Protestant churches, agencies, and associations in mission and ecumenism in Germany. Nine mission agencies, five free churches, five associations, and the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD) form the umbrella organization of the Protestant mission agencies. At the same time, the EMW acts as a professional association for ecumenical world mission and mission theology for members and associated organizations.

The WCRC and EMW partner in missionally-focused programmatic work that has included the “COVID & Beyond” discernment process, internship program, regional empowerment, the Theological Education Scholarship Fund, the Freedom of Religion process, and more.

Global Christian Forum
The Global Christian Forum (GCF) is a unique gathering of global Christian churches and organizations bringing together all the major streams of world Christianity. The GCF is an open space where all Christians can meet to nurture unity by fostering mutual respect and understanding as well as by addressing together common challenges.

The WCRC seats a member on the GCF’s Committee and participates in its programs, meetings, and other activities.

Lutheran World Federation
The Lutheran World Federation (LWF) is a global communion of 149 churches in the Lutheran tradition, representing over 77 million Christians in 99 countries.

They strive to put their faith into action within and beyond the communion, and seek God’s Word and Spirit to guide them. This action takes a variety of forms from theological reflection and dialogue with other churches and faiths, to deepening relationships, sharing about their faith, serving those in need, and advocating for a more just, peaceful, and reconciled world.

With the signing of the Wittenberg Witness in 2017, the WCRC and LWF pledged to carry forward a “renewed imagination of what being the church in communion” means today. “We need a new imagination to dream a different world, a world where justice, peace, and reconciliation prevail,” the statement reads.

World Alliance of Christian Communicators
The World Association for Christian Communication is a non-governmental organization that builds on communication rights in order to promote social justice, offering guidance and support to people of all faiths, ethnicities, and cultures worldwide.

World Council of Churches
The World Council of Churches (WCC) is a fellowship of churches which confesses the Lord Jesus Christ as God and Saviour according to the scriptures, and therefore seeks to fulfil together its common calling to the glory of the one God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The WCC is the broadest and most inclusive among the many organized expressions of the modern ecumenical movement, a movement whose goal is Christian unity.

The WCRC partners programmatically with WCC on the New International and Financial Economic Architecture project, as well as other programs. The WCRC general secretary is an official advisor to the WCC Central Committee.
