“The Lord God took the human and put him in the Garden of Eden to till it and keep it.” (Genesis 2:15)

The Season of Creation is our special time for the Creator and each other, calling us to dedicate one month, from September 1st to October 4th, to reflection on our stewardship over God’s Creation. Christians all around the world celebrate it in many ways: some pray, some do hands-on projects, and some advocate. During this season each one of us is expected to care for God’s given Creation to humanity.

We therefore publish our Declaration of Climate Emergency and call on all our member churches and the wider ecumenical community to:

  1. Educate your congregations and communities and advocate for the care of God’s Creation,
  2. Support and invest in renewable energy and other measures to combat climate change,
  3. Advocate for an end to global greenhouse emissions and move towards reaching net-zero carbon emissions,
  4. Address the challenges of inequality, poverty, war and conflict, water, food security and famine through specifically working with climate migrants, advocating with, national governments to end war, militarisation and military spending and joining the Zacchaeus Campaign that calls for just taxation to address inequality and ecological debt among many others.
