Prayer Requests

Member churches are urged to remember the bombings in Lebanon in their prayers and to pray for and support our member churches there. The World Communion of Reformed Churches has three member churches in Lebanon: the National Evangelical Synod of Syria and Lebanon, the National Evangelical Union of Lebanon, and the Union of the Armenian Evangelical Churches in the Near East.

Joseph Kassab, General Secretary of the National Evangelical Synod of Syria and Lebanon, has called for financial support for those displaced and grappling with the reality of war in Lebanon. He says, “As Christians planted in this land for a purpose, we believe in the inherent dignity and worth of every human life. It is our moral and spiritual obligation to reach out to those suffering and offer them the support they desperately need.”

Setri Nyomi, General Secretary of the World Communion of Reformed Churches, called on member churches and all people of goodwill to “remember the people of Lebanon and Palestine in our prayers and work towards peace.” Nyomi also called for financial support for those suffering the ravages of war in Lebanon and Palestine.

Support for Lebanon can be given through NESSL, our member church in the region.

Psalm 34:18
“The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

God of Peace,
Who abhors war,
In whose reign it is the meek and not the powerful who inherit the earth,
We place before you those who are bombarded,
Who stay awake to the sound of missiles,
Those who live in constant fear of terror from the skies above,
The broken, the maimed, the orphaned, and the widowed…

We seek the end of war,
We work for a time of justice,
Where children can play again,
Where the security of all is guaranteed,
Where love can blossom…

We pray for those offering aid in times of war,
For medical personnel,
For peacemakers,
For activists protesting,
For the faithful praying…

You know what it is like to watch a loved one suffer,
You see your children in pain,
Your Son suffered the violence of Empire.
Let us together say “No more,”
“Never again.”
Amen.
