The World Communion of Reformed Churches has named the Rev. Dr. Setri Nyomi general secretary emeritus, a decision taken at the conclusion of the WCRC’s recent officers meeting.

The honor recognizes Nyomi’s decades of leadership and service to the global Reformed family, during which he helped shape the identity, mission and unity of Reformed churches worldwide.

Nyomi served as general secretary of the World Alliance of Reformed Churches and later as general secretary of the World Communion of Reformed Churches. He played a central leadership role during a pivotal period in Reformed ecumenical history, serving at the helm of the Uniting General Council that brought together the World Alliance of Reformed Churches and the Reformed Ecumenical Council, leading to the formation of the WCRC in 2010.

Among his most significant contributions, Nyomi was general secretary at the 24th General Council of the World Alliance of Reformed Churches in Accra, Ghana, in 2004. During that assembly, he guided the process that led to the adoption of the Accra Confession, a landmark theological and prophetic statement addressing economic and ecological injustice and affirming faith commitments rooted in God’s covenant of life.

Throughout his tenure, Nyomi was widely respected for his commitment to justice, Christian unity and the transformative power of the gospel. His leadership strengthened global partnerships, deepened theological engagement and amplified the Reformed voice in ecumenical and public forums.

By conferring the title of general secretary emeritus, the World Communion of Reformed Churches expresses its gratitude for Nyomi’s faithful service, visionary leadership and lasting contribution to the life and witness of the Reformed communion.

The WCRC joins member churches, partners and colleagues around the world in celebrating this recognition and honoring a legacy that continues to shape the global Reformed family.
