The World Communion of Reformed Churches brought its Strategic Planning Meeting to a close Friday, Jan. 31, 2026, following a full day of discernment, dialogue and worship that concluded with a closing plenary affirming a shared direction for the global Reformed body.
The final day began with morning worship, setting the tone for continued reflection and collaboration. Participants representing a wide range of regions and contexts engaged in group work sessions throughout the day. The discussions built on earlier conversations from the week and helped refine perspectives on the Communion’s priorities and future focus.
Group conversations addressed theological grounding, global solidarity and the practical implications of WCRC’s calling in a rapidly changing global context. The sustained engagement reflected an understanding of strategic planning not simply as an administrative exercise, but as a communal and spiritual process shaped by listening and mutual accountability.
During the closing plenary, WCRC President Karen Georgia Thompson thanked participants for their commitment to the process. “What we have accomplished together is truly significant,” she said. Thompson noted that the strategic plan will be presented to the executive committee in March and emphasized the importance of pacing the Communion’s work realistically over the next seven years. “We cannot take on everything,” Thompson said, pointing to the need to address issues of capacity and staffing as part of responsible planning.
WCRC General Secretary the Rev. Philip Vinod Peacock thanked participants, executive committee members, regional leaders, moderators, network representatives and partners for their contributions to the process.
“Each one of you is precious,” Peacock said, also acknowledging colleagues who supported the meeting through facilitation and worship.
Moderators thanked participants for the clarity of language, articulation of key issues and direction that emerged from the discussions.
The meeting concluded with a visible expression of unity following days of deliberation. The Strategic Planning Meeting marked a significant step in WCRC’s ongoing work of discernment, governance and renewal.
