In an Easter message filled with both lament and hope, the World Communion of Reformed Churches (WCRC) proclaims the resurrection of Jesus Christ as a powerful contradiction to the widespread suffering and death seen across the world today.

“Christ is risen, hallelujah!” declared the Rev. Dr. Setri Nyomi, general secretary of the WCRC, in his message to churches and communities around the globe. Reflecting on a world grappling with war, injustice and despair, he emphasized the enduring promise of Easter: that death and destruction do not have the final word.

“The very land that witnessed Christ’s resurrection is now suffering under the weight of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict,” Nyomi said, noting the tragic loss of approximately 50,000 lives — many of them children — in the past 18 months. He also referenced the ongoing war in Ukraine and the deep harm caused by global economic and climate injustices.

Yet, even in the midst of darkness, the message of Easter shines with renewed relevance. “The proclamation of Christ’s resurrection is good news that defies and contradicts the prevailing atmosphere of death,” Nyomi said. “Our mission is to proclaim this good news and offer ourselves as instruments of God’s transforming grace.”

The WCRC encourages churches and communities to embody the hope of resurrection in their daily witness — standing against forces of violence, division and injustice, and helping to bring healing, peace and justice in the name of the risen Christ.

On behalf of WCRC President the Rev. Dr. Najla Kassab and the staff based in Hannover, Nyomi extended wishes for a blessed and meaningful Easter.

“In the power of the resurrected Christ, we can persevere in our witness wherever we are,” he said.
