World leaders will meet at the crucial United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 21) in Paris from 30 November to 11 December. Faith groups around the world are building awareness of the importance of reaching a binding and ambitious agreement at the talks. In October, World Council of Churches members have taken part in climate activities in Germany.

Dora Arce-Vanetin, the WCRC’s executive secretary for social justice, will represent the WCRC at an international refugee crisis consultation to be held in Munich, Germany, on October 29.

God, we continue to lift up the worsening situation in Syria. We pray for peace, Lord—for an end to the tyranny of violence, extremism, and terror. We pray for world leaders who are at odds with one another—may the goal of ending suffering override any opportunities for political advancement. We pray for those suffering—the many who have fled, the many who cannot flee. May we, your church, offer welcome and support every chance we get.
