Torrential monsoon rains and flash floods have caused widespread destruction across Pakistan in recent weeks, killing more than 200 people and displacing thousands of families. In the most recent incident, at least 21 people died in a single day as flash floods swept through northern regions, stranding tourists and submerging entire towns, according to Al Jazeera.
The World Communion of Reformed Churches (WCRC) is calling on its global family to respond with prayer, compassion and practical support.
The Presbyterian Church of Pakistan and its partners are working urgently to bring relief to affected communities as the crisis intensifies.
“As heavy monsoon rains trigger flash floods across vulnerable regions of Pakistan, we are reminded of our shared calling to respond with compassion and courage,” said the Rev. Dr. Setri Nyomi, general secretary of the World Communion of Reformed Churches. “Your continued partnership enables us to bring hope where it’s needed most.”
The Rev. Reuben Qamar, moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Pakistan, issued a direct appeal to the global faith community.
“Pakistan is facing one of the most severe monsoons in recent history. The rain and floodwaters sweeping through upper Punjab have left people in cities and rural areas overwhelmed,” Qamar said. “Cities and towns in Pakistan are submerged, homes destroyed and thousands of families displaced. Infrastructure has crumbled, crops washed away, livestock perished and entire villages displaced. The threat of further rainfall across a vast area of Pakistan risks even greater devastation and deepening an already critical humanitarian crisis. In this moment of need, we call upon the global faith community to pray earnestly for safety, healing and provision.”
Entire regions—including Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab and Sindh—have been severely impacted. Roads have been washed away, communities cut off and essential infrastructure damaged. Displaced families are sheltering in open spaces or makeshift camps, with limited access to clean water and sanitation.
The WCRC is urging churches, individuals and partners around the world to unite in prayer and generosity.
We invite prayers for comfort for grieving families and those anxiously awaiting news of missing loved ones. It also asks for protection for displaced communities who now face increased risks of illness, hunger and exposure.
“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ,” (Galatians 6:2).
The WCRC encourages donations to trusted humanitarian partners already on the ground in Pakistan, including Pak Mission Society, and calls on congregations to raise awareness, pray and act in solidarity with the people of Pakistan.
