The World Communion of Reformed Churches (WCRC) has reaffirmed its solidarity with the Communion of Churches in Indonesia (PGI) as it convened for its annual meeting Feb. 7-10 in Malang, East Java. Rev. Setri Nyomi, general secretary of WCRC, addressed the gathering, emphasizing unity, perseverance and the challenges facing the global faith community.

PGI is one of the best examples in the world of living out the prayer of our Lord Jesus Christ, as expressed in John 17:21—that his followers may be one for the sake of mission,” he said.

Acknowledging a turbulent global landscape, Nyomi spoke about the struggles of injustice, conflict and natural disasters, including the recent landslides in Indonesia. He also highlighted ongoing crises in the Middle East, urging churches to uphold unwavering faith and a collective commitment to justice.

A key focus of his address was WCRC’s upcoming General Council, scheduled for October in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Centered on the theme “Persevere in Your Witness,” inspired by Hebrews 12:1-2, the council aims to encourage global churches to remain steadfast in their mission. Nyomi called on PGI members to reflect on this theme in light of their own challenges.

As you navigate the issues confronting Indonesia and the wider world, persevere in your witness, stay united in God’s mission and continue being agents of transformation,” he said. “No matter what happens, persevere in your witness.

Led by PGI Moderator the Rev. Jacklevyn F. Manuputty and General Secretary the Rev. Darwin Darmawan, the annual meeting covered a wide range of topics, including the church’s role as God’s agents of transformation in Indonesia today and addressing challenges facing families in crisis.

During the gathering, Nyomi met with leaders of WCRC member churches in Indonesia. In this meeting, member churches renewed their commitment to WCRC and pledged to mobilize their congregations in preparation for the General Council.

Nyomi also visited the training center of the Protestant Church in Western Indonesia (GPIB), where he held discussions with GPIB General Secretary the Rev. Elly de Bel.

The PGI annual meeting, hosted by GPIB, remains a vital platform for church leaders to reflect on past initiatives and strategize for the future. It also strengthens ties between WCRC member churches in Indonesia and the broader Reformed community worldwide.

WCRC expressed gratitude for the hospitality extended by Communion of Churches in Indonesia (PGI) and Protestant Church in Western Indonesia (GPIB). As Indonesian churches move forward in faith, WCRC reaffirms its commitment to standing alongside them in unity and perseverance.
