HANNOVER, GERMANY – The World Communion of Reformed Churches (WCRC) has begun a worldwide search for its next General Secretary. The vacancy notice has been shared with WCRC member churches and ecumenical partners, with applications open until 30 April 2025.
The WCRC is a vibrant global fellowship comprising more than 230 churches across 107 countries, representing 100 million Christians. Rooted in John 10:10—“so that all may have life”—the Communion is dedicated to justice, unity, and transformational theology. Its mission is carried out through:
- Cultivating a just communion
- Covenanting for justice
- Doing theology for transformation
- Engaging God’s mission in times of crisis
- Collaborating with ecumenical and global partners
A Unique Leadership Opportunity
Based in Hannover, Germany, the General Secretary serves as the chief executive officer of the WCRC, responsible for implementing the organization’s strategic vision, strengthening its common witness, and building relationships within the global Reformed family and the wider ecumenical movement. This role requires strong leadership skills to navigate a diverse, international, and multicultural organization.
Candidate Profile
The WCRC is seeking an experienced leader committed to the Reformed tradition and global ecumenical engagement. The successful candidate will:
- Be a member in good standing of a WCRC member church
- Be fluent in English (additional languages are an asset)
- Hold theological training, including an advanced degree
- Have proven leadership and management experience
- Demonstrate pastoral and cultural sensitivity
- Exhibit strong communication, discernment, and fundraising abilities

The Search Committee, appointed by the WCRC Executive Committee, will review applications in May 2025. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interviews, with the goal of finalizing a nomination for election at the WCRC Executive Committee meeting later in the year. All applications will be treated with confidentiality, and the selection process will be conducted with discretion.
