The annual meeting of the Global Christian Forum (GCF)  International Committee took place in Rome, hosted by the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity. The GCF is a unique gathering of global Christian churches and organisations bringing together all the major streams of world Christianity. The GCF is an open space where all Christians can meet to nurture unity by fostering mutual respect and understanding, and by addressing common challenges together.

Rev. Dr. Hanns Lessing, executive secretary for communion and theology for the World Communion of Reformed Churches (WCRC), was in attendance for this gathering. Lessing shared, “The Charism of the Global Christian form is a method of faith sharing, not negotiation or activity driven, but creating space so the Holy Spirit can be at work.”

WCRC Intern, Edwin Ahwireng, said, “The GCF gathering in Accra, Ghana, in 2024 introduced me to a new understanding of ecumenical conversations.” Ahwireng also noted that he was introduced to the WCRC for the first time at his table in Accra while speaking with Rev. Dr. Setri Nyomi, general secretary emeritus.

The GCF International Committee moved ahead with new initiatives in communications, young adult engagement, and faith-sharing, while also reviewing their resources and making strategic decisions to support the flourishing of our shared vision.

The international committee renewed their commitment to encourage forum activities in all regions and began the exciting early work of discerning the theme and venue for our next global gathering. The gathering consisted of two very full days of business, and the first day began with engagements with the Dicastery and the Focolare Movement, a visit to the Papal Summer Residence in Castel Gandolfo, and a time of learning and exploring at the Borgo Laudato Si.
