Gracious God,
With you we thank you for the continent of Africa
For its wonderful diversity
Its forests and deserts
Rivers and valleys
Mountains and plains
For its rich and vibrant history
Its many cultures and languages
For its spirit of freedom and independence
For its art and wisdom
For the WCRC and its commitment to communion and justice
For the Accra Confession, a gift to the world
For the many ways that you have blessed this land and its peoples
God who suffers along with us,
Along with you we mourn for the many injustices
For the legacy of slavery and colonialism vested on this land
Ripping communities and families apart
Exploiting nature for the sake of profit in far off lands
Making some wealthy while breaking and impoverishing people on this land
We mourn for Palestine, Ukraine, Sudan, the DRC, Cameroon, and so many people
who remain unnamed and forgotten
We confess our neglect of our neighbour, we have not heard their cries of pain
Jesus, who intercedes on our behalf
We join you in praying for these concerns that you have placed on our hearts
For the people of this world
For the church and its leaders
For our meeting and the celebration of the Accra Confession
For the witness of the WCRC in the world
Blessed Spirit who comforts the mourning and disturbs the comfortable
Hear our cries
The cries of those who hunger for food and security
The cries of those who hunger for justice.
Hear us as we pray
