The World Communion of Reformed Churches (WCRC) has received the decision of the Synod of the Christian Reformed Church in North America (CRCNA) to withdraw from membership in the WCRC.

We receive this decision with sadness and deep respect for the prayerful discernment from which it has arisen. We recognise that it reflects deeply held convictions about faithfulness to the gospel and differing understandings of how the church is called to interpret and apply Scripture in its life and witness.

For many decades, the CRCNA has made a significant contribution to the life of our communion. Through theological reflection, mission, ecumenical engagement, and service, it has enriched the WCRC and strengthened the witness of Reformed Christians worldwide. We give thanks for this shared history and for the many friendships forged through it.

As a global fellowship of churches, the WCRC remains committed to common witness and shared discernment, guided by the authority of Scripture and the Holy Spirit. We continue to believe that Christian communion is strengthened when churches remain in conversation, prayer, and relationship with one another, even amid significant differences.

Reflecting on the Synod’s decision, General Secretary Philip Vinod Peacock said, “Respect between churches is not the absence of conviction. It is the willingness to remain in relationship while holding conviction.”

We continue to regard the churches, congregations, pastors, and members of the CRCNA as our sisters and brothers in Christ. Our bonds in Christ are deeper than any institutional arrangement, and they remain.

We give thanks for the CRCNA, and we pray God’s blessing upon its continuing ministry and witness. Even where our paths diverge, we trust that we remain together members of the one body of Christ, called to bear witness to the reconciling love of God in the world.
