Syria Prayer

The WCRC notes with concern the today’s news from Syria, where major developments in the country’s opposition forces have successfully captured Damascus, marking the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime after over five decades of Assad family rule. This breakthrough follows coordinated multi-front offensives by opposition groups, including Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS). Key areas like Aleppo, Homs, and Hama fell rapidly in recent days, leading to the regime’s collapse. In Damascus, members of the small Christian community were also found chanting on the streets, “Let Syria be one.”

While we are still unsure about what will happen next, the WCRC calls on all its members and partners to pray for Syria, particularly for our member churches in the region. As we pray for and watch the region, President Najla Kassab calls on the communion to pray for “this transitional period where a change of regime is taking place and for the country’s future, particularly remembering minority communities.”

The WCRC has been following the changing situation in the Middle East and remains committed to finding diplomatic solutions. We are concerned for human rights and are committed to working for just peace.

Prayer for Syria

God of justice and peace,
We pray for the situation in Syria.
We pray for justice for those who are crying for liberation.
We pray for peace for a country that has been torn by war.
Your Son, whom we call Saviour, was called the Prince of Peace.
We are called to pray for peace. Let our words become flesh.
May our dreams become reality.
Amen.
